Why Have Training?
Good quality service is priority for any organisation serving the public. How the way we meet and communicate with clients/customers is vitally important. Training in these skills is on the whole accepted as norm in most cases today, but in order to successfully service clients/customers with disabilities, specific disability awareness training for management and staff should be adopted as part of any induction or ongoing training strategy.
There are approximately 10 million people with disabilities in the United Kingdom and our research shows that 1 in 4 of your clients/customers will have some connection with a person in a disability. This is a large section of society and massively untapped market. The volume of repeat in sectors such as travel and leisure is proof that customers with disabilities, their family and friends, will display loyalty to a service where their needs are understood. Training will greatly improve the quality of service you can provide which should result in improved staff morale, customer satisfaction, and raised profile for your organisation.
It is suggested as a ‘reasonable adjustments’ included in the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 to provide formal ‘Disability Awareness Training’ and ‘DDA Training’ for appropriate personnel. If a possible case of discrimination does take place and there is no record that training has been given, then your business will be liable.
